Thanks to those who entered our Garrett County
Quilt Block Contest!

Congratulations to our Winner: Ginni Neff!

The Barn Quilt Association of Garrett County recently held a contest
to choose a quilt block that exemplifies our county.  Ginni Neff,
resident of Oakland, is the winner.  Ginni explains, "I have lived in
Garrett County for five years. Our natural wonders are what drew
me here. No matter what the season or weather, it is beautiful. This
block depicts different facets of this wonderful place. The blue
represents the crystal waters that surround us. The yellow is the
shoreline. The four dark green trees in the center are our parks and
forests. The red, white, pink, and light green are the four seasons.
They all work together to create a year in Garrett County."

All of the blocks entered in the contest were impressive and
showed the talent of Garrett County’s quilters and artists.

Ginni Neff is shown below on the left holding her entry and is
accompanied by Bev Williams, the Barn Quilt Association board
president, holding a wall hanging inspired by Ginni‘s entry.  Fabric
for the wall hanging was donated by Quilters Corner, LLP.  Ginni
also created her own quilt, below.

A commemorative pin of the Garrett County Block will be available
for purchase in the near future, as well.  The winning block, and the
10 Honorable Mentions in the contest may be used on barns or on
promotional material for the Barn Quilt Association projects.  The
Honorable mention awards are:  Nadine Baughman, Joan Chaney,
Susan Logan, Martha McGettigan, Sue O'Neal, Judith E. Ramer,
Janice Steyer, Carolyne Stolzenfels, and Carolyn White.

The Barn Quilt Association is a group of interested residents who
are working together to attach painted representation of quilt blocks
on barns in Garrett County.  By spring the organization hopes to
have a self-guided driving tour ready for residents and visitors.
